The museum itself has been in operation since 1997, and along the way it has been joined by the Paper Gallery, which opened as the country's first museum dedicated to paper, and the Chungjo Gallery, which opened in 2013 and houses the permanent collection. The Paper Gallery focuses on the research and introduction of the history and cultural value of our paper rather than its industrial value. The museum is designed to show the flow of old and contemporary art in Korea.

Japanese architect Tadao Ando was involved in the design of the museum and the entire site. The large site includes a welcome center, a stone garden, a flower garden, a water garden, a meditation space, and a cafe terrace, making the entire site a work of art.

The entire site is like a work of art. You can spend a whole day here and never get bored of the various wonderful artworks. The museum, SAN, is a harmony of architecture and art in the midst of nature in all four seasons, and is intended to give people the time to enjoy life and art through paper and analog.
