“This is one of my favorite contemporary art museums in Japan.

It is very open and the works on display are all wonderful.”

The 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa is located in the center of KanazawaCity and aims to be a park-like museum where anyone can stop by at any time and immerse themselves in a unique experience. For this reason, the building is designed with a glass art circlethat has neither a front nor back, and top lights and a light garden that provide a sense of luminance and spaciousness. The museum is open at night and has attractive stores and restaurants to meet the needs of users.

An open circular design is adopted horizontality and incorporated as a core element of the structure to create a town-like expanse while glass is used on many of the exterior and building walls to emphasize the idea of transparency and channel a sense of encounter and openness. The building was designed by architects at SANAA (Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa).
