For the past 17 years, gtdi has been involved in renewing many packaging design. The time has come for us to renew ourselves.
For a long time we have held onto the conviction that “sellable” and “useful” design is a good deed for packaging design and accepted it as the standing of packaging design in our society.
We pause and question ourselves: how much impact did our packaging design have on the final stage of the branding strategy? How many lives were we able to enrich through our design?
In times where “sellable” design is in excess, the value of design and physical objects are going under rapid change. These changes are proportionate to changes in people’s hearts and emotions. With frequent advancements and reforms that come from technology and innovation, we see that the relationship between people and objects are in need of constant update. It has become more crucial for us to design things that are close to people, which values and speaks to humanity.
gtdi's design should enrich the lives of people involved in the design at any stage. They should speak meaningful message to the hearts and emotions of people. They should build deep and sustainable relationships with the stakeholder. Finally they should become the stimulus of connection between people.
The form of design that gtdi creates from now on may not be familiar to many of us. It may not always be “useful” and “sellable”. It may not fit into the traditional concept of packaging. Nevertheless, we want to make design practice aimed at people’s happiness and creation of prosperous life as the norm for the future of packaging design.
In this complex and uncertain times, gtdi will be taking lead in the creation of design that are close to people, without the boundaries of conventional methods and views.
gtdi is a design studio based in Tokyo, Japan.
Our roots go back to packaging design, expanding into creative works that include but are not limited to branding, product development, and concept making.
Our team consists of members fluent in Japanese, English and Chinese and we work on design with wide perspectives that arise from both Japan and overseas.
We want to work with people who enjoy the process of creating.
