The name "dō" is derived from "soil," one of the five elements that are the pillars of the Yin-Yang Five Elements Theory. Soil plays a significant role in circulation and the birth of organic matter. The kanji can also be viewed as a vertical combination of plus (+) and minus (-). The image of the sculpture, which is formed by adding and subtracting clay, is likened to the law of addition and subtraction, a basic concept in Eastern philosophy, and the sound of the English word "dough," which means bread dough or soft lump, was adopted. The bottles of dō's signature products, Nail & Cuticle Oil and Body Scrub & Bath Paste, are intended to visualize this concept, with asymmetrical, organic shapes. To encourage people living in today's hectic world to face their bodies and minds and live a lifestyle of true richness, "dō" also emphasizes its connection with the art world. The artwork for the first collection's cosmetic box was created by Fong Min Liao, a New York-based Chinese-American painter.
