The building was built in the later years of Kiyonori Kikutake, one of Japan's most famous architects.

In the Showa Hall, historical materials about the hardships experienced by the bereaved families of the war and other citizens during and after the war are displayed in the permanent exhibition room. It is a great place to learn about the history of Japan as it displays not only scenes of life inthe early Showa period, but also things that we cannot imagine such as the actual incendiary bombs dropped by B-29s.

Now that there are fewer and fewer opportunities to hear directly about what life was really like back then, everything is a valuable resource. You can also listen to news from that time, photos and videos of the atomic bombing, and audio in the individual booths.
