Misa and Maki Awatsuji are two sisters who head an all-female design studio: AWATSUJI design. Founded in 1995, they work in a range of mediums from packages, editorial, to signage and space planning. After studying Graphic Design at Tama Art University in Japan, and finishing her masters degree at CRANBROOK ACADEMY OF ART, she works at TAMOTSU YAGI DESIGN until founding her own studio. She also teaches at the Joshibi University of Art and Design, and is a member of the Japan Graphic Designers Association, as well as the Japan Typography Association. As for Maki Awatsuji, she graduated from Tama Art University with a degree in interior design, and works with Studio 80 for 6 years. After developing her skills under leading Japanese designers Shigeru Uchida and Ikuyo Mitsuhashi, she joins her sister in 1998 to work on projects under AWATSUJI design.
