Weng Nam Yap
Weng Nam Yap is a graphic designer and artist from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He holds a B.A. degree in Graphic Design at Royal Academy of Art, The Hague in 2012. His working experience in The Hague, Barcelona and Prague has armed him with a unique approach to designing – one that challenges the norm and celebrates the random beauty of experimentation.
Weng Nam's major interests are sound, music and visual, he enjoys to work on different mediums that blur boundaries between design and art, he has participated in selected group exhibitions, includes: A+A Slovenian Exhibition Centre (Venice, Italy, 2012), Mapping Festival (Le Commun, Switzerland, 2013), International Techno Art Exhibition (National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taiwan, 2014) and etc.
His works have been featured in several publications in Europe and Asia, and received international recognition including the European Design Awards, Golden Pin Design Awards, in meanwhile he has been nominated as young guns under Antalis 102030 program among South East Asia in 2015. He participated artist-in-residence program in Tenjinyama Art Studio (Hokkaido, Japan) in 2015 and DOOR TO ASIA designers-in-residence program (Tohoku, Japan) in 2018, where designers from Asian countries gather in a community for a period of time to create “communication design” for the local companies.
In 2016, his first solo exhibition ‘The Blind Men and the Elephant, in Sapporo’ is an interactive visual-sound installation, held in CAI02, Sapporo. In year 2017, he founded Studio Clap.
